Design Factors - Part Two

Here are some important factors that should be considered when designing a multiple page web site:
  • Easy to Navigate. If you want visitors to remain on your site, ensure that access to all information, order forms, contact details, etc. is clearly available on every single web page. This can often be achieved most easily by the use of a standard template, with individual content added for each web page.

  • Quality Design. If at all possible, hire the services of a professional for your initial site design. The image your site projects will be representing your business day after day to thousands of potential customers. According to Nielsen/NetRatings Audience Measurement Service, the average duration of a web page viewing is about 00:55 seconds - less than a minute. That means we need to keep graphic files small so they'll download quickly and we need to keep content simple and direct. A professional designer knows how to present your business site effectively.

  • Interesting Content. If your content is interesting and easy to access, your visitors may choose to remain longer than your allotted 55 seconds per page and they just might bookmark your site and keep coming back.

The type of content you choose should be connected to your products or services so you'll be attracting the appropriate consumers. It doesn't have to be lengthy or even an original idea, as long as it's well written in your own words and it offers readers a practical solution or result, such as care instructions.

  • Customer Service. It's important to provide customers with a means to contact you online if they have questions about your products or services or have a complaint about delivery, etc. Since you're often dealing with potential customers that you may never actually meet in person, it's vital that you provide assurance of your ongoing concern for their satisfaction.
